COVID-19 CITY DISPATCHES |
The driving questions of how to understand the pandemic and consequently what, on earth, to do have generated a spectrum of talk and action across the globe. Often left implicit is the role of the city. As one narrative would have it, the one-time pinnacle of human achievement has become the main locus of tragedy. However, the city is not only the primary setting of the current pandemic but also a player that shapes socialites among humans, inter-species relationships and interfaces between living and built environments.
We at C&S are opening a channel for urban scholars to provide reports and thought pieces on the city where they reside and/or conduct research. To that end, we have reached out to colleagues across disciplines and from a range of global cities, including Salvador, Brazil; Melbourne and Sydney, Australia; Bissau, Guinea-Bissau; Amsterdam, the Netherlands; Chennai, India; Durban, South Africa and Hong Kong. We hope this will become a rolling series of dispatches as realities are changing rapidly.
